At home

بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalallāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.

In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might and no power except with Allah.

Virtue

You are taken care of, protected, and the devil withdraws from you.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever says upon leaving his house: In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, there is no might and no power except with Allah — it will be said to him: You are guided, defended and protected, and the devil will go far away from him.'

At home

بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أُضَلَّ، أَوْ أَزِلَّ أَوْ أُزَلَّ، أَوْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ، أَوْ أَجْهَلَ أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَيَّ

Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalallāh. Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika an aḍilla aw uḍalla, aw azilla aw uzalla, aw aẓlima aw uẓlama, aw ajhala aw yujhala ʿalayy.

In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or being caused to slip, from wronging others or being wronged, and from acting ignorantly or being treated ignorantly.

When the Prophet (ﷺ) would leave his house, he would say: 'In the Name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from going astray or being led astray, from slipping or being caused to slip, from wronging others or being wronged, and from acting ignorantly or being treated ignorantly.'

At home

بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى اللهِ رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Bismillāhi walajna, wa bismillāhi kharajnā, wa ʿalallāhi rabbinā tawakkalnā.

In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we place our trust.

Read the hadith

When a man enters his house, let him say: O Allah, I ask You for a good entry and a good exit. In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon Allah our Lord we place our trust. Then let him greet his family with salam.

At the mosque

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Allāhummaftaḥ lī abwāba raḥmatik.

O Allah, open the gates of Your mercy for me.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When any of you enters the mosque, let him say: O Allah, open the gates of Your mercy for me. And when he leaves, let him say: O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.'

At the mosque

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Allāhumma innī asʾaluka min faḍlik.

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Read the hadith

And when he leaves, let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.'

At the mosque

أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَبِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ، وَسُلْطَانِهِ الْقَدِيمِ، مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Aʿūdhu billāhil-ʿaẓīm, wa biwajhihil-karīm, wa sulṭānihil-qadīm, minash-shayṭānir-rajīm.

I seek refuge in Allah the Magnificent, and in His Noble Face, and His eternal authority, from the accursed devil.

Virtue

Say it entering the mosque and you are guarded from the devil for the rest of your day.

Read the hadith

When the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque, he would say: 'I seek refuge in Allah the Magnificent, and in His Noble Face, and His eternal authority, from the accursed devil.' When he said that, the devil would say: 'He is protected from me for the rest of the day.'

When eating

بِسْمِ اللهِ

Read the hadith

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: 'O my dear boy, say the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearest to you.'

When eating

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا الطَّعَامَ، وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Al-ḥamdu lillāhil-ladhī aṭʿamanī hādhaṭ-ṭaʿāma, wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawlin minnī wa lā quwwah.

Praise be to Allah Who has fed me this food and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part.

Virtue

Your past sins are forgiven.

Read the hadith

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever eats or drinks and says: Praise be to Allah Who has fed me this and provided it for me without any power or strength on my part — his past sins will be forgiven.'
